By Dr. Cynthia Barnett

A prominent life coach creates
a roadmap for retirees.

Dr. Cynthia Barnett is a nationally renowned author, life coach speaker and leading authority on how to “re-fire" and reinvent yourself in retirement. Her latest book is entitled, Prime Time Makeover: How to Make the Rest of Your Life the Best of Your Life.

Dr. Cynthia’s “refirement” message has been featured in U.S. News and World Report, local newspapers and television. She was recently featured in a Time Magazine article about women who reinvent themselves in mid-life.

As a dedicated mentor with a passion for making a difference, Dr. Cynthia donates a portion of the proceeds from her speeches, conferences and book sales to Norwalk Community College in support of worthy students who wish to become teachers, and to a program that pairs retirees with elementary school children in need of extra reading help. These retirees will bring the extra hands, eyes, and time to students who need it the most. Their efforts will both provide the volunteers with a deep sense of satisfaction and improve the lives of the next generation.

Dr. Cynthia resides in Connecticut. She is also the author of Stop Singing the Blues: 10 Powerful Strategies for hitting the High Notes in Your Life.

A Note from the Author,

Dr. Cynthia Barnett

“The idea for Prime Time Makeover: How to Make the Rest of Your Life the Best of Your Life came to me in the first year of my retirement from public education, five years ago. I read a study done at Cornell University that found over half of retirees wished they had planned more for the non-financial aspects of their retirement.

At the same time, I was discovering that many of my retired friends were frustrated, bored and unhappy. Some took boring jobs just to stay occupied and fill the void. As my colleague Nancy Schlossberg, author of Retire Smart, Retire Happy: Finding Your True Path in Life, says, “The biggest mistake people make is not realizing there’s a psychological component to retirement.”

My own journey, preparing for this new phase of life has brought me tremendous satisfaction and joy. I am living a life beyond my wildest dreams as a retirement lifestyle specialist, lecturer and author. My experience has been so rewarding that I’ve dedicated the rest of my life to helping others take purposeful action to create fabulous, fulfilling lives in retirement.

If you’re about to retire, the best advice I can give you is this: Put as much effort into the content of your retirement as the financial planning and start planning while your are still employed. Like a career, a successful retirement requires planning, implementation and on-going review.  And remember that the journey is NOW, enjoy ever minute of it.
